Chapter 17

Step Into The Extremes Part 1

"Come in," Master Paine ordered before Ernestine could even knock. Both of them knew that she was in some serious trouble.

Nevertheless, Ernestine took a deep breath and stepped in. "Master, I can-"

"Don't waste my time, like you always do," Paine snapped. "We've already been wasting our time talking about how useless you are."

Ernestine looked down at her feet, her voice shaking. "I understand but . . ."

"But what?!" yelled Paine. "That you let them unlock the chest?!" He stomped up to Ernestine, grabbed her chin and thrust it upwards so she was given no choice but to look up at her. When he spoke again, his voice was soft but dangerous.

"You don't know how much energy I sacrificed to lock my once best friend in that chest," he sneered. "And now that he's been released by the Energy Rangers, I may never claim the Sports Energy power I deserve. And it's all your fault. Now I may not even be able to trust you as a sidekick!"

"Master, please!" Ernestine begged. "I can pro-"

"You've already proven to me that you're just a helpless wannabe pest!" Paine spat, raising his oher hand. "Nothing but trouble and a waste of power . . ."

Ernestine's eyes widened in horror as she realized what he was going to do. "No no no no n-"

Showing no mercy, Master Paine smacked his hand over Ernestine's face and began to drain the energy from her, ignoring her frantic muffled screams. Panicing, Ernestine tried to grab his hand and remove it from her face but it would not budge. Slowly, she began to feel herself grow weaker with each passing second . . .

Her hands dropped . . .

Then Paine pshed her onto her knees, draining the final bit of energy away from her.

Finally Ernestine let out one final moan and collapsed unconcious.

Paine chuckled at his weakened sidekick then raised the hand that contained her energy. He shot it out along with more of his power and began to shape it into the form of a new monster. Growling slightly, he reached out with his other hand, obviously putting a lot of thought into his creation. Next thing, he stretched out his fingers and the spaking form began to beam brighter. Spikes began to grow out from it's shoulders, arms, legs and head and it began to form into a more human shape.

Maser Paine jerked his hands one last time and the shape almost exploded, releasing a massive blast of dark energy power. When it cleared away, it revealed an all new monster.

He was almost completely black with vicious golden eyes. He wore a long purple and silver spiked helmet which almost completely matched his spiked gloves, boots and shoulders. He also wore a dark metal vest that was also decorated in purple and silver. It also had a symbol very similar to the Sports Energy lightning bolt and sheild only it was much sharper and looked much more dangerous. There wasn't one part of his body that didn't have gleaming purple veins running through them.

Paine smirked, satisfied with his creation. "I've been waiting a long time to create you, Vladimir."

The monster- or Vladimir clenched his fists but more in a pleased way than threatning, making Paine's smirk grow wider.

"Hopefully you will make a better sidekick then her," he added, tilting his head at Ernestine who still hadn't recovered from getting her energy drained.

"I don't take kindly to be calling a sidekick," said Vladimir. His voice was deep and there was a slight rasp in there. "What is the purpose of my creation, anyway?"

"I created you to be vicious," Paine instructed. "I created you for energy! Power! To get rid of the Energy Rangers!"

Vladimir folded his arms at this. "Energy Rangers, hmm? How powerful are they?"

"More powerful than I thought," said Paine through gritted teeth. "And now with the Olympian Warrior by their side, they are growing stronger. If they gain any more power, they may become invincible! They might even desroy us!"

"The word 'invincible' doesn't exist for me when it comes to oppoments,"said Vladimir. He then glanced at the weakened Ernestine. "You say she was useless, do you?"

"Nothing but a waste of energy power," Paine replied, nodding.

Vladimir paused for a moment, taking this in. Then he blasted Ernestine with an energy beam. Ernestine jerked before waking up in shock. She grew even more terrified when she saw the new monster towering over her and backed away in terror.

"What are you doing?" Paine asked, horrified.

Vladimir chuckled. "If she's as 'useless' as you claim she is, then she will make the perfect distraction for the Energy Rangers."

"What do you mean?"

Vladimir chuckled again. "For my creator, you're not as intelligent as I thought you would be. Think about it. A weakling like this would be sure to give the Energy Rangers a false sense of security. Then when the time is right . . ." Vladimir grinned a sinister grin. "I will be able to destroy them."

"But why can't you destroy them now?" Paine demanded, growing impatient.

"Ahh, you see. We must wait," said Vladimir. "The time to strike will come. But we must be patient. In the meantime, we can still test the Rangers to their limits until they begin to feel the pressure. And once they crack, I'll be sure to show what real energy power is like . . ."

"Extreme Sports Mode will be a great power to have," said Dr. Sparks. "But it will also have to be used very carefully. The energy is so powerful that if used incorrectly, it could backfire and may even lead to almost disasterous consequences. That's how powerful it is."

Zoe snorted. "As if something like that would ever happen," she muttered under her breath.

"You must also remember that Extreme Sports mode would have to be only used when you know you're struggling," said Finian. "We cannot afford to waste power here, especially now that Paine knows you've released me. You must remember that he will stop at nothing to get that Sports Energy Power."

"Are all supervillains that determined?" Jason asked.

"I'm afraid so," sighed Finian. "Greed is an amazing thing. It can-"

Before Finian could finish his sentence, the sound of an alarm filled the room. Dr. Sparks and the six Rangers wasted no time in racing over to the giant computer to see where was being attacked.

The screen showed the image of a purple, black and silver alien-like creature standing in the middle of an open area with trees, bushes and a large lake nearby. He wasn't doing anything destructive but he was black ball decorated with purple gems.

"You deal with those FlunkBots easy enough. Let's see how you deal with my Vantrymans."

With that, the monster threw the ball into the air. The gems shot out of it and exploded only to form new foot soldiers- or "Vantrymans" the monster called them. They were silver, with purple spiked helmets that didn't cover their black faces and golden eyes and purple veins and wore black gloves and black boots.

The monster folded his arms proudly at this. "I hope you guys are as tough as Master Paine claims you are. You'll need to be," he warned before disappearing.

Callum, Zoe, Olivia, Alex and Jason all stared at the screen, speechless. Then one by one, they all glared at Finian.

"Do you know him?" asked Callum.

Finian sighed. "Never in all my years have I ever come across him. But he does seem clever. Paine is certainly upping his game. You ought to be careful out there."

"We ought to be careful? Why, what are you gonna do?" Zoe demanded.

"I'm going to look for this new enemy and seek for answers. Hopefully it might help us find some weaknesses," said Finian. "And by the way, I must mention one last thing. Did I tell you that you can use the Energy Powers I gave you while unmorphed?"

Alex raised his eyebrows in approval. "Well that'll certainly make things interesting!"

"Alright," said Callum. "There's no time to waste! Let's go, guys!" he ordered, racing off with the others.

As soon as they were gone, Finian turned to Dr. Sparks. "If I am not able to fight off this new enemy then we both know what it means: Paine is not only upping his game but he is really beginning to show his greed and determination. We must save our energy."

Dr. Sparks nodded. "Hopefully the teens will remember to use their new powers carefully. We're talking about some serious fighting here."

"Let's not lose faith," said Finian bravely. "It'll only affect our battle. We can only keep going," he added before heading off alone.

The Vantrymans immediately turned towards Callum, Zoe, Olivia, Alex and Jason and growled viciously as soon as the arrived. The Energy Rangers stood their ground and prepared to fight.

"Alright," said Callum. "These guys look tough. Really tough. Be careful out there."

"You think we don't know that?" asked Zoe rudely.

Callum just ignored her and lowered his eyebrows, just as and Vantrymans roared and charged. The Energy Rangers wasted no time in preparing themselves for the fight and charging back.

Jason sprinted to a tree and leapt off of it like a springboard before flipping over two charging Vantrymans and landing behind them. Just as they could take in what just happened, Jason whipped round and swiped his leg underneath them, knocking them over.

Infuriated by this, more Vantrymans charged at Jason who dodged one (sending it flying) and punched a second one hard, sending that one flying too. Another one tried to swipe him in the head but Jason dodged it, grabbed it's arm and spun around, whipping it around and threw it into five more of the foot soldiers, knocking them over. The green ranger finally finished off the rest of his Vantrymans by performing a Green Energy Rack Attack, bouncing off all of them like a tennis ball.

Alex leapt up, spun round and pummelled a Vantryman in the stomach, knocking it over. Another one tried to punch him but Alex grabbed it's arm, then noticed that it was holding a blaster in it's hand. Alex grinned and aimed the helpless Vantryman's arm at another group before pulling the trigger and striking another group of charging Vantrymans, blowing them backwards.

The yellow ranger then tightened his grip on the Vantryman he was holding before swinging around and sendin it flying into another group of the foot soldiers. Alex backflipped back into the centre of the area where five more Vantrymans were charging at him. Without a moment's hesitation, Alex charged up yellow energy power and used it to perform a Yellow Energy Enforce Strike, blasting the Vantrymans with a yellow energy hockey puc.

Olivia cartwheeled her way into a massive group of Vantrymans. She quickly kneed one in the stomach, causing it to bend over in pain, allowing Olivia to roll over it's back and pummel her feet into another Vantryman. Another one lashed out at her but Olivia bakflipped out of it's way and neatly landed on a split.

Two Vantryman's saw this as an oppurtunity and grabbed an arm each, hauling Olivia back onto her feet. Not intimidated, Olivia whipped around and noticed a third Vantryman charging in her direction. The pink ranger grinned and leapt off, whacking her foot off the Vantryman's stomach and backflipping her way out of the grip of the other two foot soldiers that were holding her and taking them by surprise. Olivia smirked slightly before noticing that more of them had formed a circle around her and were closing in fast. Shrugging casually, her smirk growing wider before she leapt high into the air and began to spin at a rapid pace, charging up pink energy as she did so. The Vantrymans watched on, not sure how to react. Even if they could react, it would have been pointless- Olivia finished off her Pink Energy Air Twister by striking the pink energy at them like bullets.

"You're more delicate than me!" she grinned as she landed neatly on her feet.

Zoe growled as the Vantrymans in front of her as they prepared to strike her with their laser blasters. Lowering her eyebrows, the blue ranger charged at one at the kneeling ones and jumped off of it's shoulder, knocking it over and sending Zoe flying into the air. Zoe front flipped through the air to boost her jump before she began began treading hard and super fast on each of the Vantryman's shoulders, the way someone would if they were sprinting over really unsturdy rocks on a river- and it was almost exactly like that- every Vantryman that Zoe stepped on was knocked down.

Zoe finally whacked off the last Vantryman and leapt into the air again, performing another front flip and performing a flying kick into another Vantryman, pummelling it to the ground as Zoe landed on her handsand flipped back onto her feet, eyeing the Vantrymans she had just knocked over. They were just climbing to their feet.

"I'm sure you lot can take the heat!" she shouted. "Let's see if you can take the cold! Blue Energy Chill Attack!"

With that, Zoe swiped her hand, shooting a blast of blue energy. It struck the ground in front of the Vantrymans and the area around them immediately turned to ice, knocking them back over. Out of the corner of her eye, Zoe spotted another group of Vantrymans and quickly shot a Blue Energy Chill Attack at them. The icy air was enough to cause the Vantrymans to spark and tumble to the ground.

Callum backflipped his way through several Vantrymans as they tried to swipe him from undearneath. A smarter Vantryman however pulled out it's blaster and fired at Callum, causing an explosion and catching him off guard which made him tumble to the ground. The Vantrymans all made robotic laughter noises at this and began to corner in on him. The red ranger lowed his eyebrows and recovered quickly, cartwheeling back onto his feet. The Vantrymans glared at him in anger before they all pulled out their blasters and fired. Not wanting to fall for another explosion, Callum quickly used a Red Energy Laser Boost to speed his way through the Vantrymans then raced across them, pummelling each one with his fist as he passed them. The Vantrymans sparked and fell to the ground just as Callum rushed to join his teammates.

"I think that's the last of them," he panted.

Jason nodded, smirking a little. "They weren't so tough!"

He spoke too soon.

As if on queue, the Vantrymans, every single one of them suddenly recovered, flashing purple as they did so. Next thing, they all raised their hands that were holding the blasters then aimed at the Energy Rangers. Before the teens could react, they fired at them. The lasers exploded and sent the five teens flying and crashing to the ground.

"Ugh!" Olivia grunted before giving Jason a dirty look. "Are these guys tough now?"

"Yup!" Jason said quickly. "Now they are!"

"They're definetaly putting up a good fight. We're going have to power up a bit," said Callum as he and the others climbed to their feet, pulling out their Energy Morphers. "Ready!"

"READY!" Zoe, Olivia, Alex and Jason chanted in unison.

"Sports Energy, Suit Up!"

The five teens held out their Enery Morphers which flashed brightly in their colour. The Sports Energy crest appeared on their chests while the rest of their bodies turned completely white. Their Energy Morphers really began to glow violently so the teens threw them up into the air before leaping up after them. As soon as they reached their Energy Morpher, they grabbed it and thrust it into their chest, causing their Energy Morpher to disappear into a flash of their colour and their Ranger costumes appeared. The teens quickly performed a backflip and landed neatly on the ground. Their helmets appeared to cover their heads and faces.

"Red Energy Ranger!" Callum struck a pose, the type of position you'd see an athlete just before a race only it was much stronger and looked much more ready to fight.

"Blue Energy Ranger!" Zoe stuck one foot in front of her and leaned in backwards with one arm stretched out straight ahead, the other bent behind her, like a feisty ice skating position.

"Pink Energy Ranger!" Olivia stood up as straight as she could and thrust her hands up even straighter, like a gymnast would after finishing a routine.

"Yellow Energy Ranger!" Alex clenched his fists and placed them in a way that made him look like he was holding an invisible hockey stick.

"Green Energy Ranger!" Jason twisted around and held his hand up in a clenched fist as if he was holding an invisible tennis racket.

"Let's go!" Callum shouted and he and the other Rangers charged at the Vantrymans. But the Vantrymns charged up their blasters again and fired more powerful lasers at the Rangers, striking each one individually with multiple bullets, causing the teens to stumble and their Ranger costumes spark. Finally the Vantrymans really charged up their blasters and shot their strongest lasers at the Rangers, causing a massive explosion and blasting them backwards.

"Let me guess, Jason" Alex moaned, clutching himself in pain. "These guys are tougher than you thought?"

"Took the words right out of my mouth," Jason admitted.

"Are you two crazy?!" Zoe exclaimed. "These things are NOTHING like we've fought before!"

Callum groaned. "I wonder how Finian's getting on . . ."

"Show yourself!" Finian demanded. He was standing in the heard of the forest and had been waiting there for a long time. He was willing to stand there for hours if he had to and had his Olympian Morpher out ready to strike.

"I know you're there!" Finian continued fiercly. "I will not quit until I know who you are, what you want and what you have to do with Master Paine!"

His words finally worked. A purple beam flashed behind him and the black, silver annd purple alien-like creature appeared. He stood up and grinned at Finian.

"So . . . you're this 'Olympian Warrior' I've been hearing such wonderful rumours about," he chuckled.

"Who are you?" Finian asked, not intimidated.

"I am Vladimir . . . created by Master Paine to help stop you from claiming his power."

Finian lowered his eyebrows. "That energy power was never meant for you, nor Paine. It was meant for all of us to share."

Vladimir burst out laughing. "Share? For someone so knowledgable, Finian, I don't think you seem to realize that only one can handle such extreme energy."

"And that one will never be Master Paine," said Finian. "His greed for that energy turned him into a monster! He may never be good again!"

Vladimir just let out a sarcastic sigh. "Oh dear, what energy does to you . . . Why don't you just leave it so you don't become evil like Paine?" he snarled.

"Because I only use energy power for good!" Finian replied. "I don't use it for greed! And I most certainly do not use it for evil! I share my power amongst my new teammates so they can use it for good too!"

"Oh really?" sneered Vladimir. "Well I'd like to see just how you use this energy power for good."

With that, his veins began to glow, the shine, flashing down them like blood before they reached his hands and began to charge up. Finian stood up straigher, realising what was coming. As Vladimir thrust his hands out, Finian pulled out his Olympian Morpher and used it to strike the purple blast back and make it disappear.

Vladimir growled. "You will certainly make a good oppoment."

Still holding his Olympian Morpher, Finian prepared himself to fight. "If it's a battle you want, I will be glad to accept it." Wasting no more time, Finian held out the golden ball and shouted out "Olympian Energy, Gear Up!"

But Vladimir wasn't wasting much time either. Without giving Finian a chance to budge after his morphing sequence, he blasted more beams at Finian. The beams sparked and exploded around him before they finally knocked him over hard. Vladimir laughed and approached him mencingly.

The Olympian Warrior was already on his feet and pulled out one of his golden hoops. "Olympic Ring: Olympian Slasher!"

"Very well. A sword fight it shall be," chuckled Vladimir. Once again, he charged up energy in his veins but this time used it to create a thick black and purple sword that looked very sharp. The two enemies immediately charged at each other and started to fight, Vladimir attacking, Finian defending himself.

"I see you're quite skilled with a blade," growled Vladimir. He quickly tried to strike Finian where he was exposed but the Olympian Warrior had lightning reflexes and defended it off. Vladimir tried to strike his head but again Finian blocked it with his Olympian Slasher. Next thing Vladimir tried to swipe Finian from underneath but Finian saw this coming and backflipped out of the way while Vladimir backed away so they were several metres apart.

"Hmm . . . We seem evenly matched here," Finian murmured.

"And it seems that neither of us are going to give up," Vladimir replied. He grinned slightly. "In fact if we're as evenly matched as I think we're are, this battle could go on for hours."

"If that is so, then I am willing to fight," said Finian bravely, raising his sword a little.

"But don't you have your energy power to protect?" said Vladimir. "After all, who knows? Your 'tammates' could be in severe pain right know! And Master Paine and his sidekick could be looking out for more power right this minute . . ."

Finian twitched a little and lowered his sword. "More power? What are you on about? Gavin and I have the Sports Energy Power in the right hands."

Vladimir shrugged a little. "I don't know . . . Maybe like THIS?" His sword began to glow . . .

Finian gasped and raised his sword but this time he wasn't fast enough. Vladimir began to slash his sword around, shooting the purple slashes at Finian, striking him hard and causing his Ranger costme to spark violently. Vladimir finished off the fight by shooting one last purple beam from his veins. The beam exploded, knocking Finian into the air and onto the ground.

Groaning in pain, Finian looked up through the smoke and flames. That monster would be sure to strike him at any second now. He jumped up and charged- only to realize that Vladimir was no longer there.

The Olympian Warrior frowned behind his helmet and pulled out his morpher.

"Gavin," he said sternly. "We have a problem here . . ."
